Disgusting!

He looks so cute and innocent in his new church outfit, but he is always full of surprises!

Dallin came running at me today while I was sitting down. I grabbed him and lifted him up in the air while rolling onto my back. We were both laughing and then all of sudden throw up landed in my mouth, on my eyes, hair, neck, pretty much everywhere. I started screaming for Zane to take Dallin while spitting the throw up out of my mouth. I ran to the bathroom to rinse out my mouth where I gagged a lot more. Next I ran to the shower.

Zane and Dallin found the whole experience quite funny. Not a drop of throw up was on Dallin and only a little landed on the ground, so Zane's clean up job was nothing! It is funny to the dad because guess who was throwing Dallin in the air and chasing him around the house right after dinner...of course dad. He, though, never gets thrown up on. I asked him when was the last time he experienced any of Dallin's bodily fluids, and his answer was not since Dallin's throwing up stage at 1 month old! We have had a lot of experience with throw up, but throwing up formula from a 1 month old is very different from throwing up real food from a 1 year old. I on the other hand have experienced all sorts of bodily fluid from Dallin. The joys of being the mom.

I couldn't be mad at Dallin too long though because after my shower he comes running around the corner with his hands outstretched to give me a big, wet, slobbery lick (kiss for him.) Now who wouldn't love that!

Twins?

My sister went on a cruise this week, and so we helped watch her son, Caleb, a couple of days. Every time we went out together, Zane and I would get asked if these boys were twins (5 different people asked us this). Obviously they aren't identical, but they have similar coloring, the same blond hair, and are the same height. Their eyes are very different though; Dallin has very clear blue eyes and Caleb's are very brown. I just laugh when asked and say they are cousins who are 6 months apart and actually my son is adopted (and so really genetically, there is no relation.) Twins or cousins, it doesn't matter. These two are best friends and love being together. They light up and start jumping when they see each other.
Our fun week with Caleb:
Dallin trying out his birthday present (his bike seat) with Zane for the first time. He loved it.

The boys had a lot of fun driving around together. It is always nice having a friend in the back seat.

The wagon of course. I'm lucky if I can get them both to look at me at the same time let alone smile together. I think in their mind they are thinking, "All right. Enough pictures. We need to start rolling!"

Playing at the park

Ouch!

I've decided that scrapes and bruises mean I'm a good mom, not a bad mom because it shows that we play a lot. Dallin loves to be outside and sometimes he gets too excited and tries to move faster than his feet. This is what happened last Friday. He tripped over his feet and couldn't get his hands out in front fast enough to stop himself. His nose skidded on the ground and he bumped his forehead. There were tons of tears right afterwards, but later when I showed Dallin what he looked like in the mirror, he didn't even notice his nose. I kept trying to point it out and he kept looking elsewhere. A couple hours after the accident, our caseworker showed up from LDS Family Services to complete our home study and interviews which includes her checking to make sure our house it fit for a baby and that we are good parents. Of course the first thing she noticed was Dallin's bloody nose..it's hard not to notice. No worries though, we still passed.

Outside Please!

Dallin has become obsessed with going outside. His new favorite hangout is looking out the window by our back door. A couple of times I swore he even said the word outside. He will go to one of our doors and point to the door knob when he wants to go outside and play. If he doesn't get his way, then he starts stumping one foot and crying. Last week was hard because it rained so much which brought cooler weather (we are grateful for the rain of course but it sure made life miserable.) A little one year old doesn't understand the words wet and cold. Well one day when we got out of the car, Dallin discovered a new toy. He is now obsessed with it.

A plunger and an empty gas can. Even better...

Priceless expression (very mischievous). Although the garage isn't the cleanest place, it sure made a happy little boy.

Now that the sun has come out this week, we are no longer playing in the garage, but exploring new places. Our friend Dawn invited Dallin and me to Market Street to run through the fountains. It was Dallin's first time and after some apprehension, he really got into it.

Swinging in the water

Right up the butt!

Trying to catch the water

With the sun comes Popsicles! Dallin loves these too.
The little tear in his eye was from a second earlier when he got mad that he couldn't have my Popsicle too. Temper tantrums are starting all ready....

Birthday

As Jenny has hinted many times, my birthday was last Wednesday. It was also my first Enrichment since I received my new calling as a counselor in the Relief Society Presidency. Now you might think that was bad luck to have to do Enrichment on your birthday, but that wasn't the case. Part of our theme was a birthday party for Enrichment so I didn't look too weird when my sister in law, Kari, gave me a birthday balloon to tie to my chair. So although I spent the day setting up for the night, buying food, and then getting ready, I had a great day because everyone knew it was my birthday. I got a lot of attention, and really, isn't that why we like birthdays...to have a special day just for us???

The really great part of the day also happened because of Enrichment. I told Zane he had to be home by 5:30 from work so that I could get to the church which meant he had to work from the Woodlands instead of going downtown. I love when Zane is in the Woodlands because we get together for lunch! We had a fun lunch with Dallin at Red Robin in between all my running around. Dallin also gave me a gift, sleeping in until 8:00. That felt wonderful!!!

By the end of the day, my whole family had called to wish me happy birthday except my dad. On Sunday March 8th, my mom and I were talking about shopping for my birthday (I love shopping, but it really is more fun without Dallin!) and my dad interrupts and asks if he missed my birthday. I told him not to worry that it wasn't until Wednesday. Well, Wednesday came and went and I finally got a call from him on Thursday. It really is hard for him to remember dates!

Thanks everyone for all the birthday wishes.

Spoiled

I got these pictures emailed to me, and I wanted to do a quick blog about them.

Dallin has never been much of a cuddler. The only time I get to cuddle with him is when I feed him a bottle. Dallin will stay on my lap while I feed him for a couple of minutes and then when he is done, he immediately starts to squirm down to start playing again. This is why I never had Dallin hold his own bottle and feed himself. He could care less about bottles and would chuck them across the room so that he could continue to play. I enjoy those couple of minutes a day when I get to hold and cuddle with my baby. When Carolee was here, I realized how ridiculous it may look to other people. Here is this big boy who looks half the size of Carolee being fed a bottle.

Now that Dallin is one, we have stopped bottles and use sippy cups. When you hold out a sippy cup to Dallin, he will first open his mouth and wait for you to put it in. When I don't do this, he will finally put up his hands to hold it himself. It cracks me up. Dallin can feed himself just fine, but about three times a day I still feed him just like I did with a bottle but now it is a sippy cup. I just can't give up my cuddling time. I know, he is spoiled.

I know a little about being the best aunt because I was the favorite aunt for many years. The rules are simple. The favorite aunt plays, jumps, wrestles, and buys gifts for the nieces and nephews. When there is a diaper change though, the baby goes back to his mom. Those are not part of an aunt's duties. Well, Melissa does everything right in order to be a favorite aunt and she cleans up throw up!!! Dallin threw up all over his crib and while Zane and I were in the bathroom cleaning Dallin up, Melissa cleaned up his bed sheets and started the laundry. This was above and beyond duties! Now I am the one being spoiled.

Thanks for all the help and a great trip guys!

Yummy food!

If anyone has been around Dallin long enough, you know he eats, eats, and then eats more. If he sees me chewing on something, then he will try to pry my mouth open to get whatever I'm chewing on (gross I know.) Today, Dallin kept starring and smiling at the girl behind us in stake conference. We thought she must have been making faces at him or he was just flirting. Then he starts yelling. We turn around and see that she is eating a foot long fruit rollup. Dallin has never seen or had one of these before, but he knows they are food so he wants it too.

Earlier this morning, I told Dallin that Zane was eating something yummy and to go find him. Dallin picked up the spoon he was playing with and goes to find his dad. Nothing will stop him from getting what he wants if food is involved. (On a side note, if I tell Dallin to go get his shoes, he just looks at me weird.)

You can't really see, but Dallin is holding his spoon in his left hand ready to dig in.
If we aren't quick enough to feed him, then he will do it himself.
Dallin's probably thinking how unfair it is that Zane gets such good food for breakfast and he is stuck with oatmeal cereal.
Now we know why he is such a big boy. Dallin had his 12 month appointment last week and weighed in at a whopping 26 pounds and is 31 inches tall (90%).

A little boy and his dad

I think there is nothing cuter then the sounds of a little boy playing with his dad. Moms are great but careful, while dads are more lively and fun. Zane had this whole weekend off of work, and Dallin enjoyed every minute with him.
Playing hit the balloon

Reading stories- Zane's voices are funnier then mine

Anyone but mom!

As I posted earlier, Dallin sees very little of his dad right now because of Zane's work schedule. The consequence of this is that he is bored with mom. Now when anyone comes over, he immediately walks over to them and raises his hands to be picked up. This includes the bug guy, satellite guy, anyone in the grocery store who smiles and talks to him (which is practically everyone because he is so cute), and then of course anyone in the family. I try not to be too hurt and tell myself that at the end of the day, it is still mommy he wants...except when Aunt Haley's around! I don't know what it is about Haley, but Dallin loves her and sometimes (ok lately a lot of the time, sniff sniff) he prefers Haley. I keep telling myself it is nice for me to get a break, but really I want my momma's boy back. Haley and I exercise together every morning, and when it is too cold to run outside, then we work out inside. Haley gets the better workout (although she may not see it this way) because she picks up and puts down an extra 26 pounds. Both her son and my son want her attention constantly! We also do some strength training. This is harder because if Haley is laying on the ground, both boys will jump on top of her. I'm on the other side of the room getting a great workout wishing someone liked me too, while Haley wrestles two boys.

This is Haley trying to work her outer thighs (don't get mad Haley for posting this.) I was a little too late taking this picture. A second before, Caleb was straddling Haley's neck while Dallin jumped on top of her.

Needless to say, I felt wonderful this last Saturday when Dallin was sad to see me leave for an errand in the morning. Maybe he will be a momma's boy again soon.
